His areas of expertise are divergent and include Communication Skills, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Mediation, Arbitration, Human Resource Management, Supervisory and Leadership Skills, Organizational Behavior, Diversity, EEO, Sexual Harassment, Labor Relations, Labor-Management Cooperation, Negotiations, Employee Relations, Project Management, Customer Service, Business Law and Public Administration. He currently serves on the consulting extension faculty at Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations and as a Adjunct Associate Professor at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Administration at New York University and as a Summer Visiting Professor at the University of Arkansas.
In addition to the aforementioned teaching expertise, Mr. Matthews has practical industry experience in both a union and management environment having worked for the Public Employee’s Federation (PEF), AFL-CIO, as a Field Representative and for New York City Transit as a Director of Labor Relations. He currently serves as a workforce development –human resources consultant for J.P Morgan Chase. His previous experience also includes positions in the Queens District Attorney’s Office, the New York State Department of Tax and Finance, and the New York State Assembly.
He has provided training for many organizations, including the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, the EEOC, The Federal Executive Board, Airborne Express, Colgate Palmolive, Prudential Securities Inc, J.P Morgan Chase, Arvest Bank, and the Ministry of Labor in Bermuda. He occasionally serves as a mediator, arbitrator, and negotiator of disputes in the private, public, and non-profit sectors. He serves as a mediator for the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) He also serves on the commercial, employment and labor panels for the American Arbitration Association. Moreover, Mr. Matthews is the co-founder of the nationally heralded mediation training program for Region 2 of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and also serves as a senior mediator for the commission.
He earned his Juris Doctor Degree from Howard University School of Law. He earned his undergraduate degree with honors from C.W Post College, Long Island University.
